911DA Story: Story
I had just finished my shift as a Firefighter/Paramedic and was preparing to leave and go up to Fire Admin. to get fitted for new uniforms. As I came into the kitchen one of the Lt.s said that a plance had hit one of the twin towers. I watched for a few mins. thinking it was an accident then proceded to go to the Admin. office. Upon arriving there, their TV was on and I witnessed the second plane hitting the second tower. I lost my breath for a minute and thought "This is unbelievable". On my way home I heard about the Pentagon being hit and by that time I was in a panic. I got home and woke my husband up and said to him "The world is falling apart and you are sleeping. Get up, I need you" We remained glued to the TV all day and when we went to work that night (in a restaurant) we had the television on. I don't believe we turned it off for at least a week.
Doing what I do for a living,it really affected my husband and I. You never think of bad things happening until after they do. And when we go to a fire, our first responsibility is to save lives so we would have been running in the twin towers. It is just automatic.
