The September 11 Digital Archive is pleased to announce that it has partnered with the Library of Congress to ensure the long-term preservation of its collections. To mark the occasion a day-long symposium entitled September 11 as History: Collecting Today for Tomorrow was hosted at the Library on September 10, 2003. The September 11 Digital Archive is working with the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History, Behring Center to collect both the text and digital audio stories of visitors to the exhibition and website "September 11: Bearing Witness to History," open at the museum from September 11, 2002 until July 6, 2003.
Shortly after September 11, the creators of NPR's "Lost & Found Sound", brought together radio producers, artists, historians, archivists, and the public broadcasting community came together to collect and preserve audio traces of the World Trade Center, its neighborhood and the events of 9/11. "Lost & Found Sound" and NPR set up the Sonic Memorial phone line to record your stories and collect audio contributions.
The September 11 Digital Archive is pleased to announce its collaboration with the American Red Cross Museum to document the personal histories of Red Cross employees, volunteers, and those involved in the humanitarian efforts in New York, Western Pennsylvania, and Northern Virginia.
MIXNET develops and hosts customized, off-the-shelf web based applications for businesses, non-profit organizations and government. Mixnet is working with the September 11 Digital Archive to digitize and archive the September 11 recollections of visitors to the Smithsonian's National Museum of American History.
