NMAH Story: Life Changed

My life has changed since Spetember 11, but it wasn't in a direct way. I still remember sitting in choir class and hearing what happened. I didn't know anybody in New York, or Washington D.C., or on any of the planes, but it wasn't until months later that I began to feel the effects of the events that took place on that day. My father, both of my grandfathers, and most of my guys friends belong to volunteer fire departments. The men that are on the fire department in my small town are like second fathers to me. They look out for me, and they will always hold special places in my heart. Months after September 11, 2001 I began to think that any of my "fathers" could have been killed in these attacks. If one of them would be harmed I don't know what I would do. I can only imagine the sence of loss that these people's families felt when they were notified of their loss. Ever since then I have a greater outlook on life. I realize that now that we all aren't Superman and we can't always be protected from everything. I know that anyday could be your last, and that you have to cherish what you have. It could be gone in a blink of an eye.
