911DA Story: Story
My story is not in any way dramatic in comparison to the events of the day. I work from home one day a week and I was taking care of my 4 month old daughter along with my mother. A call came from my sister in Jersey City, New Jersey telling us to turn on the TV. We did and simply could not believe what we were seeing.
As the events unfolded I vividly remember holding my daughter in my arms as she girgled and smiled. She had no idea what was happening. This was the first time I thought about whether I had made a mistake in bringing her into a world where tragedies like this happen. I thought about this and really struggle with it for weeks.
I did ultimately came to a conclusion that makes sense to me. I brought my daughter into this world to make it a better place and the events of September 11th make me believe even more in that goal. She is part of the future and I will do everything I can to teach her to fight hatred in all its forms, respect diversity and human life, and contribute to the world in a positive manner. If all of us who have a hand in shaping the future take this perspective the people who died in this horrible event will have contributed to the world more than they could have imagined.
