911DA Story: Story

Like most people, I drove into work enjoying the same beautiful weather New Yorkers were experiencing. A day like any other.
Someone in our building heard the initial report on the radio. Due to a snow storm where several people were stranded in the building, the television was still in the cafeteria. We turned it on and watched in disbelief.
For the entire day we went in and out of the cafeteria to watch. Some remained there most of the day. I called some friends and amazingly some had not heard and thanked me.
That night we continued to watch throughout the evening and in the weeks to come. The first thing I did when I got home was to turn on the news for something new, someone found alive or dead, a reason for this horror.
We finally decided to fly to New York and put some of this to rest and see for ourselves. We were not prepared even though we thought we were. It was December, a few weeks before Christmas and the contrasts were everywhere.
I am glad we made that trip. It settled some things for me, but I'll never forget and sincerely hope our county never forgets the taking of all those innocent lives.
