My boyfriend and I were woken up very early in the morning by his mother, who lives in Sacramento, CA and was usually up before the sun came up. I saw Michael get up, turn on the TV, place his left hand on his forehead, speechless, gaping at the burning towers. I looked up at the TV and remember having no idea what it meant. Yes, I saw the fires and the planes, but it didn't click. The shock of it all really threw me off. Michael looked at me, in disbelief, and said we were being attacked, the world trade buildings were being attacked. It wasn't until I heard that planes were headed for downtown L.A. that I realized the gravity. My mother works downtown. I did not stop crying for a week.
