911DA Story: Story
I was fast asleep in bed; sleeping in as I did not have to go to work until very late that day. The phone beside by bed rang and I struggled to pull myself awake sufficiently to pick it up. When I did, I heard my daughter say, "Turn on the TV."
I was taken by the grave sound of her voice, normally so cheerful when she called. I asked, "What station?"
She said, "Any station." The way she spoke was so compelling that I didn't protest, but hung up the phone, got out of bed and walked to the living room where I turned on the set. I don't know which channel it was on, but the picture was unreal. Planes crashing into buildings. Not like the scene in "King Kong" but very, very real. Large passenger jets crashing into the World Trade Center. It was sickening - stunning. I thought of all the people working there and all the families and friends who loved and needed them. I began to cry.
