911DA Story: Story
I was getting ready for work...Stunned by the news, I numbly finished getting ready, then drove to the elementary school where I work as Secretary to the Principal. We all felt a profound sense of loss, particularly, because 'the enemy' was not easily identifiable.
I also teach part time in the Arts, Humanities, and Communications Division at a local community college. In the Fall 2001 semester, I taught Inroduction to Human Communication. My students were a diverse mix of ethnic background, age, and political/religious interests, as is usual in undergraduate classrooms in California. All of my students expressed their horror about this event; class discussion enabled even normally shy students to express their views. A wonderful bonding developed among my students that continued to grow through the semester. I just felt that in our little corner of the world, a horrific event produced a wonderful classroom experience for my students and for me.
