NMAH Story: Story

My 3 year old son came in to my room to tell me that there was a building on fire on the Sesame Street show. Confused and still groggy from sleeping I came out and recognized that it was one of the towers. I just stood there in disbelief at how a plane could go so off course and hit the building. That was when I saw the second plane hit. My son was asking what was wrong and my 1 year old daughter had just woke up. I changed the channel to a more kid friendly program and went in to my bedroom to wake my husband up and tell him what was happening.
My husband is a Auxilary Police officer here in NY and immediately was called to work. The whole rest of the day and night was spent with him out patrolling the streets and possible target sites while I sat home clutching my 2 children. I had found out on Sept 9th that I was pregnant with our 3rd child. While sitting there listening and watching everything that was happening on teh news and radio I couldn't help crying and feeling such a great loss for all those innocent people. But I also realized then what kind of world my children were about to grow up in.

NMAH Story: Life Changed

9-11-00 has changed my life in many ways. I am afraid to fly on airplanes, but will still do so eventually. I realize that when I grew up we didn't even know about terrorists and what we may have heard was about things that happened in OTHER countries... not the USA. My children won't be able to feel that way. They will grow up wondering if we will get attacked.
My life has changed in ways I did not realize until recently. So many ways emotionally that I can not even begin to explian.

NMAH Story: Remembered

I think the way the US pulled together during the worst crisis we have ever encountered is something that no one will ever forget. Many people gave their lives to help save the lives of other people.
America truely has a giving caring nature, and no one can ever change that.

NMAH Story: Flag

Yes, we put up our flag and have not taken it down since. I was never a person to really show pride for America in the past but now I am very proud to be an American.
