NMAH Story: Story
I was working at Y-12 Nuclear Plant in Oak Ridge, Tennessee when this tragedy took place. I remember it was a beautiful day and it seemed just like any other. Then an instant message came throughout out building..."a plane had it one of the World Trade Center buildings". I couldn't believe it! A coworker then came to my office and shared her disbelief about the "accident". The first thing I said was "this was no accident..no commercial plane could have accidentally come that close to one of those buildings." Then in a matter of minutes, the other plane hit. The shock was shared throughout our work areas and from our families and friends. We left early that day. I spent hours/days watching everything on television and listening to the radio in my car. I drove home among other Americans shining their headlights in the middle of the day to show support and share our grief for the employees and families of the WTC.
NMAH Story: Life Changed
We are a very powerful country and there are many people who don't like us. We have become too complacent and should first, and foremost, protect our own. We cannot assume everyone is here because they want to share what is good about this country.
NMAH Story: Remembered
We should remember why it occured and teach our young people not to become complacent in the future.
NMAH Story: Flag
I always fly an American flag off and on during the year. My patriotic feelings about our flag and what it stands for was, and is, still the same.
