NMAH Story: Story

I was sitting in my Journalism I class, and we just happened to turn on the T.V. right when the second building was being hit by the plane. The rest of the school had no idea yet what was going on. Everyone just stared in disbelief and in shock. No one thought it was real. I just couldn't believe that something like that could happen. It was just so hard to believe. Then I got scared, because I heard that the Pentagon was hit, and my Dad works at the Capitol, so I was worried that it was going to be hit next. I immediately tried to call my mother and my dad, but I couldn't get through to either of them. My mom ended up calling me at school a few minutes later and told me that my dad was fine. Then I thought about how I had prayed just the night before 9/11, saying how I wish that my generation had something to give them perspective, like a war. So I was horrified, because I thought that my prayers were answered in the worst way, and that it was some how also my fault. I felt extremely guilty and
remorseful.

NMAH Story: Life Changed

Yes, for a long time afterwards, I was extremely paranoid about planes. I live near Dulles National Airport, one of the major airports in the D.C. area, so I can always see tons of planes really low getting ready to land. When air traffic resumed a couple days after 9/11, every time I saw a plane I got scared thinking that it was on its way to strike another building. I felt that way for months. I also just know what it is to be an American, and how incredible our country really is. It also just made appreciate life and all my loved ones, because like other families, I could lose them in an instant without notice.

NMAH Story: Remembered

I think the courage of the firefighters, police officers, people in the buildings and on the planes. Also all the families that lost someone should be remembered. No one should forget what happened to our country and our people.

NMAH Story: Flag

Yes my family did. I think about the flag in a much higher respect now, because I understand what it stands for and how important it is.
