NMAH Story: Story
On September 11, 2001, I woke up to my mom telling me to turn on the television and watch the news. I got up, and as I was eating breakfast, I watched the tragic videos of the terrorist planes run into the side of the twin towers in New York.
At first, I didn't realize the seriousness of the accident. I just thought the planes had crashed on accident because I had never even thought that it could be terrorism. Terrorism had never been as issue in America before, so we were all shocked to find out that it was. I thought our country was at peace with every other country.
The footage of the people running away from the buildings with gas masks on is what really stuck with me and made me realize how tragic and serious this situation was. I felt horrible for the families waiting to get that phone call from their loved ones who were dead. I felt horrible for the firefighters who died in this horrible accident also.
I have to say that I am proud of all who helped, put their lives on the line, and who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. This brought our country closer together as a nation and now I am more proud than ever to be an American.
