911DA Story: Story

I'm a coordinator for the N.Y. Board of Elections. On the morning of 9/11, while working at my poll site in a
synagogue, the police officer informed me of the planes
that had crashed into the WTC. At first, I didn't know
what to think about it but a few minutes later a young
women entered the synagogue and stated that another plane
hit the Pentagon. I was starting to feel fear, I didn't
know exactly what was going on, but I knew that I had to
contact my family. I called home and one of my sons
answered and I told him to turn on the T.V. and he informed
me that the towers collapsed. That did it for me. I was
totally in limbo. All I kept thinking about was my kids.
Since the city was shut down, I walked home, it took
about 2 hours. I picked up my younger children in school
and bursted into tears when I saw them. They could not
understand what was going on.
What hurts me most of all, is the fact that those 2
beautiful buildings are gone. I had the pleasure of being
able to work in Tower 1 on the 53rd floor about 10 years
ago. I also knew one of the victims, her name was
Nicole Lindo she was on the 103rd floor of Tower 1. Her
remains were never recovered.
The events of 9/11 has left me with great sadness. It
will take me many years to get over this.
