Description
A month later on October 11th I felt like I had to visit ground zero. The recovery effort had been going non-stop since that fateful day. Of course most of the public was barricaded from going deeper into the site. I found that the outpouring of missing persons flyers and sentiments of support and mourning had as much if not more of an emotional gravity than the actual devastation.
When I made this photograph I was struck by the vividness of the wilting flowers against concrete and steel as if a testament to hope, support and love no matter what the conditions.
