Description
On October 2, 2000, I took my husband to see the Statue of Liberty. (He had not seen it since he came to the U.S. at the age of 9, an Italian WWII orphaned refugee brought to the U.S. by the U.S. Army Refugee Relocation Project in 1954.) It was such a lovely clear, crisp Fall day. At the base of the Statue of Liberty, I took this picture of him. A U.S. Navy veteran, he was on the Destroyer USS Joseph P. Kennedy, Jr., during the Cuban Missle Blockaid, and his ship was the ship featured in the Movie "Thirteen Days" - - He helped restore the ship for the movie and as a National Monument where it now sits in Battleship Cover, Fall River, Mass. I now have this photo on my computer desktop, and it still breaks my heart when I glance at it. . . . And, now, I am eternally grateful that I was able to see the towers once more that October day.
