911DA Story: Story
I drove to the teacher's conference early in the morning and was listenting to music, so I didn't hear the news. However, during our meetings, they interrupted us to watch the news and tell us all the happenings. All of us were crying and praying at the same time. They gave us a break and we called our loved ones to check on them.
I checked with my mom who was at home and she hadn't heard from my sister and her husband who were vacationing in England at the time. We heard from them later that day, and found they would not be returning for awhile since no airplanes flew for a week it seemed. I called all my family quickly and checked to make sure everyone was alright and safe. I was truly blessed to have my family intact after such a horrific event.
After the break, they released us to go back to our schools and to be with our students. My 8th graders were nervous and scared and by the end of the day, most had parents come pick them up.
It was an intensely emotional time, and today on the one year anniversary, again, it is emotional. To know that so many lost their lives and now families are having to makeup that loss, is tragic.
Thank God we live in a nation where we can pray, and we can believe in God. Our nation will be healed as the Church begins to pray and we focus on what is most important!
