911DA Story: Story
I was working at my desk when a fellow employee in our NYC office called and said to turn on the television, that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. I rushed to get a television and turned it on to watch with fellow workers in my office. At first we had thought that a small commercial airliner had hit the building. I then thought.... it's such a clear day, how could you make a mistake like that? Then we watched in horror as another jetliner hit the adjacent Tower. We then learned that another plane had hit the Pentagon, and one had crashed in a Pensylvania field. I was shocked. It was unbelievable. I was worried for our fellow workers in Manhattan. I felt for the families that had lost loved ones, and for those families that had lost more than one member. When I saw the first tower disintegrate, and then the next my thoughts went to my infant. I immediately went to pick her up and return home. I no longer felt safe. I still don't even today, the first year anniversary of the disaster. So many lives were lost, and to think of the horror all those trapped people felt, in the buildings, on the airplanes. I have never felt so unified with all the people in this great country of ours. I am proud to be an American.
