911DA Story: Story
I work in a small blood center in Upper Michigan; we average 20-25 donors
per day coming through the blood center. On September 11, 2001, we expected
to see an increase in donors because everybody wants to help when a tragedy
occurs. The outpouring of donors was overwhelming!!! We extended our
normal hours of operation to try and get as many donors through as possible.
At about 10pm, we finally told the rest of the donors to come back on
9/12. September 12 ended up to be a repeat of September 11; once again we
had a long line of blood donors waiting up to 3-4 hours to donate. Our two
day total of blood donors was over five hundred. A big thank you goes out
to all of our volunteers, both donors and helpers. We all came together to
work toward a common goal. We truly were "united" within the United States. Diane, RN
