911DA Story: Story

On September 11, 2001, I was in my classroom teaching math, when a student entered the classroom with a note from the office. When I opened the letter, it briefly stated that there had been an attack on American soil. The letter also mentioned that parents would probably start to pick up their children early. Other than that, the letter was very evasive. As the day continued, my class started to wonder why several parents had come to pick up their children, seeing that this was not a normal behavior. I told my students that when they went home, that they should watch the news. I also told them that I was truly unaware of all the details, and would have more clarity once I was able to watch the news. At the close of school, I immediately ran and turned the television on. Needless to say that I was shocked regarding the days events. I was also afraid, for I have a good friend who resides in New York. I was worried about his safety, for he is a policeman there. I tried to call him, but in light of what had occurred, I was unable to get through. I left an e-mail message for him to contact me whenever he had the opportunity. In about a 24hr period, he called me to let me know that he was okay. I can't describe how emotional I was after seeing what had taken place. It is truly a day in history that I will never forget.
