911DA Story: Story

September 11, 2001 began as another work day for me. I arrived at the office at 8:00 a.m. At approximately 9:00 a.m., I received a phone call from my husband telling me that an airplane had struck one of the twin towers in New York. As we discussed it, we thought it must have been an accident; however, just a few minutes later while my husband and I are still on the phone, he tells me that another airplane has hit the second tower. It was then I knew it was no accident. Then an attack on the Pentagon and a plane crash in Pennsylvania. At that moment, even though surrounded by co-workers, I never felt so alone. Everyone went into a world of their own. I worried about my family, my friends and for my country. As the days have passed and America has struggled back, we still must never let our guard down. September 11th will always stay in my mind. It was truly a sad day in history, but it brought our Nation closer together and we must never forget the ones who gave their lives for us that day.
Myrtle McKinney
