How has your life changed because of what happened on September 11, 2001?

I interviewed my grandmother about where she was and how had her life changed on the tragic day of September 11. She didn’t really show any emotion on her face, she just kind of stared into the distance. She finally turned and looked at me with a sleeping smile and said, “I was at home doing laundry and suddenly my washer was broke. I finished folding the clothes and went and sat in the living room, turned on the TV and what I thought was just a new movie out turned out to be reality. All I could see was smoke on the TV. I hurried up and called your mother to get you and your sister home right away. I then sat in front of the television in shock of what was really going on. I even started to cry because all those people killed, injured, and even all the families that were going through this right then and there. I don’t really recall anything that tragic I will never forget that day and every year I will pray for the families and the dead. “

How will you remember the 10th anniversary of the September 11 attacks?

When I interviewed my grandmother I also asked her how she remembers the day September 11. She replied, “I will always remember September 11 till the day I die. I will always remember the horrific images on the TV and all the talk about what happened, who did it, and why. I never thought anything like that would happen to our country. Every year I will pray for the lost, I will pray for the families. I will also always remember that day cause that was the day my washer broke.” She gave me a big hug and smile then I told her thanks grandma.
