911DA Story: Story

LOOK CAREFULLY AND YOU CAN SEE
THAT CLOUD OF SMOKE
HOVERING OVER ME
AS I DIG FOR HOURS,
LONG HOURS,
FOR DAYS AT A TIME.
MY FEET ARE BLISTERED AND
MY BURNING EYES BEGIN TO CRY.
AN ARM, A LEG,
NEVER TO THE SAME
A HEAD A TORSO,
IT'S ALL THAT REMAINS.
EVERY ARTICLE YOU SEE
AND PAPER YOU READ
THERE'S A PICTURE OF A HERO
THAT RESEMBLES ME.
BUT I'M NO HERO
TO SAY THE LEAST.
JUST DOING MY JOB
TO PUT PEOPLE AT PEACE.
OUR HEARTS HAVE HATE
FOR THE AFGHAN MAN.
FOR HE HAS TURNED OUR CASTLES
INTO HIS LANDS OF SAND.
BUT HE WILL NEVER WALK PROUDLY HERE
WITH HIS HEAD UP HIGH.
BECAUSE OUR LOVE AND UNITY
WILL SICKEN HIM
AND HE WILL SLOWLY DIE.
SO LOOK AT THE SKYLINE
AND THE LIGHT OF DUST
AND JUST REMEMBER
IT IS ALL OF OUR HEROES
WHO WATCH OVER US.
