911DA Story: Story

I was at work at Einstein Medical Center when I first heard of the attacks; one of my patients started yelling, "A plane just hit the World Trade Center!" I didn't believe it at first until I saw it on TV for myself and then watched the second plane hit. Feeling numb (and choking back tears)and watching as breaking news that the Pentagon was attacked, I immmediately called my parents, boyfriend and my best friend- I just needed to hear their voices; the Pentagon- I thought nothing could even come close to penetrating the Pentagon. Everyone, including the patients, were silent for the rest of the day. I picked up the last four hours of a friend's 12-hour shift so that she could be with her husband and children. When I got home later that night I just sat on the couch and watched on TV in disbelief of what had happened that day. I couldn't sleep for about two weeks, at times almost feeling guilty for being alive. My best friend and I visited Ground Zero on Nov.14,2001...I just could not believe that the Twin Towers were gone (I hadn't been to the WTC in years). Although I did not know anyone who perished I felt as if I had...they were my fellow Americans.
