911DA Story: Story
The morning of 9/11 I was on my way to work and heard the news on the radio. I thought it was a hoax played by one of the crazy DJ's. All too soon it became clear this was reality. That night I wrote this poem... I hope it is an inspiration to all who read it:
TWO TOWERS AND A NATION
SEPTEMBER 11, 2001
The silent stillness of the night breathes deeply with a mournful sigh.
The wind whispers throught the empty streets earlier filled with horrific cries.
This day began with a glimmer of hope,
With sunshine and a chill in the air.
But the morning's events have changed all of that
and left is the clutch of despair.
Fear not gentle nation stay steadfast and true
Though your enemies lurk far and wide
For God will be watching over you
And in our hearts forever abide.
The calm quiet morning will bring a new dawn of relief,
For those of us learning to live with the grief.
We'll open our hearts and share all the pain,
Be thankful and reverently helping our friends
And fervently praying for those who were slain.
Fear not gentle nation stay steadfast and true
Though your enemies lurk far and wide
For God will be watching over you
And in our hearts forever abide.
As the days pass us by and we prepare for the future
We'll remember and ache with the pain that we nurture
Forgetting sometimes how we all have been blessed
By Our Heavenly Father wo cradles us now
In our time of mourning when we need his caress.
Fear not gentle nation stay steadfast and true
Though your enemies lurk far and wide
For God will be watching over you
And in our hearts forever abide.
Two towers so strong sometimes swayed with the wind
Two towers forever are gone,
In our hearts and our minds your stature will stand
And forever live on and on....

I used to work in the World Trade Center and I still cannot imagine the ongoing suffering and pain that the families of those who were lost must go through. My prayers and thoughts are always with you. God Bless!
