911DA Story: Story

I had left for work from my home in Lady Lake. I got there at the usual time, just after 9 AM. I did'nt have a radio in my car. So
I did'nt know what had happened. I was talking to my manager who takes care of the Shoe Dept. where I work. I guess it was about 10 minutes. And told her, "I have to report in, so my husband won't worry about me." As I live 30-35 min. away from my job.
Well, I come around the corner. Where the washers and dryers flank
the aisle leading to the Breakroom. There was a HUGE TV screen, it was always on when I came in. I thought it was very strange and thought what I was seeing was a movie. I had never seen the Twin Towers like that. I figured it was a movie like everyone else did.
Then, into the Breakroom I go. The
next thing I know. I'm really seeing the first tower in heavy thick, black smoke. I had to do a double take, shook my head. Then thought it was an explosion. Well, I could'nt use the phone as someone else was using it. I went into the Training Room and called my husband. He's from Brooklyn, NY
and I did'nt know if he was home still. Turned out, he was and had
turned off the TV set and was listening to the radio. He told me a plane had gone in. I could'nt believe it. At first I thought the pilot made a mistake or had a fatal heart attack and could'nt control the plane. He said, "NO!!!
And a 2nd plane just went in the other tower!!!" I said, "WWWWHHHAAATTT???!!!" This is nuts, I thought. I could'nt believe it at all. Until I finally saw the video replay.
It was so stunning and unreal to me. Again, I thought, okay. This
pilot flew in too close as he may
have been making observations to radio to the towers at La Guardia,
Newark or Kennedy.
Turned out totally different. To this day, it's still too unreal to believe. And with the anniversary coming up next month. I know that the last time I saw these towers,
in July 1993. On a clear Summer's
Day, coming home. Seeing them standing there, sparkling in the sun. I never thought it would be the last time I would see them physically. This tragedy shows how
terrible man can be, when led in the wrong direction. How sad this still is.
