911DA Story: Story

My husband's a green beret. I had just kissed him goodbye @ 04:30 I thought I'd eat a nectarine with my oatmeal and watch Katie & Matt, then some yoga. I turned on the television in time to see the initIal pictures from the first plane. My college roommate is in New York, working. I couldn't remember her parents' number and fumbled through my address book, and then the second plane hit. I screamed into the phone, "Wake-up! Turn on the t.v., Oh my God where's Heather where is she today." Four days went by then I heard her blessed voice.

I knew we were at war the moment the second plane entered the picture frame. I called my husband on the cell, he was with some Marines. I yelled we're under attack. I called a short while later the Pentagon's been hit. Oh God, Aunt Mel briefs the Pentagon where is she, where is she?

I called my grandmother where's Melonee? She had post-poned her trip a week, but her co-workers are dead. You know Maya (my cousin)was supposed to fly home from New York Tuesday morning, she was homesick and took an early flight on Sunday, God Bless us. Her fiance is missing. 2 days later we heard his blessed voice. He had run all the way to the ferry and didn't stop until he reached the other side.

One year later...I proudly wear red, white, and blue. I'm not sad, I'm proud because My America Survived with graciousness, kindness, compassion, justice, diligence, faith, respect, and unbelievable HOPE.
