911DA Story: Story

Hello:
I was at work the morning of September 11, 2001, since this was a morning work day. My daughter called me from home and informed me that a plane had struck the World Trade Center. I did not think to much of this, because I thought maybe she was misunderstanding what had actually happened, I thought maybe a plane crashed in New York or something. As I was speaking to her, she screamed with much excitment, that another plane crashed in the second twin towers, at that time no one in my office (Dana Farber Cancer Institute) heard what had happened. At that moment I hung up the phone and ran right to the nearest television, with most of my co-workers in pursuit. We all looked at the TV, with pain and grief, knowing that there were probably people actually in the building, since this was a work day and very early in the morning. Patients, Staff, Physicians and etc., were all watching the TV, with horror and pain. We could not work all day, knowing that there was other plane crashes (Pentagon and Pennsylvania) also. Oh, how many lives were lost so quickly and unneccesary. I will never forget this day and I prayed this morning at exactly 8:46am and asked God to please watch over the souls of the innocent victims and their families and to please continue to give them comfort and strength for the remaining part of their years. This event has made me appreciate my family and loved ones. There is not a day that goes by that I don't let my Husband,Mother, Siblings and children, know how much I love them and adore them. The only great thing that came out of this tragedy is that Americans are a closer knit family and we will always be unified and proud to be an American.
