911DA Story: Story
I was flying from BWI Airport in Maryland to Jacksonville, FL for a meeting and program review. We departed BWI around 8:00am and landed in Jacksonville at 10:00am. When we were going through the Jacksonville airport we noticed crowds around the TVs, then we realized that the planes had hit the twin towers, and then heard that a plane had struck the Pentagon.
Meantime, my husband who works in Alexandria was frantically calling the hotel where I was staying trying to get in touch with me. Where he works in Alexandria, he saw the plane that crashed into the Pentagon and when it hit, their building shook. The business closed around 11:00 am that day.
I was finally able to get in touch with my husband while I was at the airport in Jacksonville. Later that afternoon I was able to speak with our two boys. The boys knew I was flying down to Jacksonville, and both were afraid that I was killed.
The flight back to BWI on Thursday, September 13, was cancelled out of Jacksonville. So we rented a car from Jacksonville and drove through the night to reach Maryland.
