NMAH Story: Story

Like most people in the Eastern part of the country (with me being in the Southeast), I noticed what a beautiful day it was. I had just dropped my children off at school and felt a little lonely since my husband was in Chicago on business. As I started my morning cleaning routine in the kitchen I turned on the small 13" tv to catch up on the news. Fox News was talking about how a plane had just crashed into the World Trade Center and it must have been a horrible accident. As I watched as the reporter was on the roof somewhere showing the towers in the background, I saw a plane coming up behind the reporter off in the distance. I had a terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach, but was hoping it was just a plane on the way to one of the NY airports. But, sadly, it wasnt. As the reporter was talking, the other plane crashed into the other tower. I felt myself getting lightheaded, and a feeling of disbelief came over me. I was wondering when the ad for the movie was over.
Then, I realized again that my husband was not home. I got sick at my stomach. I called him, he was safe in Chicago, but didnt know when he could get home as all the airports were on lockdown at that time. We would talk later when he knew more.
My daughter called from her school. She was crying hysterically. She thought her Daddy might be on one of those planes. I reassured her he was fine, but I went to the school to pick her up, as were most parents. My kids came home that day....we stayed inside all day despite the beautiful weather...scared of the unknown.
My husband returned home late Thursday night. He was finally able to find a rental car.
We were all in shock...

NMAH Story: Life Changed

The sad part of life after 9/11/01, is that I have become more distrustful of the world around me. I personally had the feeling that the United States was invincible, that our government was on top of things, and that we as a nation could never be struck by terrorists. I was wrong.

NMAH Story: Remembered

The brave men and women who died in all the areas. They will never know how much a part of history they are and will always be.

NMAH Story: Flag

I flew the flag on my home and my cars. I was so proud to see the patriotism shown by my friends and neighbors. The tragic events brought us all closer together.
