NMAH Story: Story
I had just gotten out of class that day, and I had headed to the University Center in the center of my college at Stephen F. Austin State University in Nacogdoches, TX. I knew something fishy had happened because in the post office there was an easel set up and on the easel was a cardboard sign saying that the big screen tv was on CNN in the Grand Ballroom. I was wondering why CNN would be going on in the Grand Ballroom. For a couple of days many students spent time in between classes watching CNN, but it seems like I was one of the only few that watched in the ballroom, it was very quiet in there, and it was dark and isolated. I quit watching because it only became more depressing to see the images over and over again.
NMAH Story: Life Changed
Yes, in someways I'm more vigilant to the activities and things around me. I'm not however, scared to go out, I'm more aware of my surroundings and stuff, but other than that, if I worried everyday, I'd be falling for the whole purpose of terrorism anyways.
NMAH Story: Remembered
The people who lost their lives and the people who have helped recover and reshape the area's and things involving the whole tragedy. Indeed, it has impacted my life on many levels, and I think we should memorialize the losses, but I also feel we must go on and push forward towards the future and learn from the experiences the event has brought to us.
NMAH Story: Flag
I did not fly the flag, nor did I participate in the mass consumerism of patriotic products after the event. I think its very cool to be patriotic, and I love the flag, however personally its very old seeing mini vans driving around town with two or flags... a year or so later. Its good to have respect for your country, but it does get to the point where its getting rubbed into the ground a bit too much. The flag to me, is a symbol of our country, something you think about on 4th of July, not something that is seen at Wal-Mart on everything. I think the flag stuff is cool, I think September 11th turned the flag into a "trend" and I think many people wore the flag stuff because "everyone else" was doing it, and I think that, that is a wrong reason to be patriotic.
