NMAH Story: Story
When I saw the attacks happen on September 11th I can distinctly remember where I was. I was in 11th grade at ELCO High School in Pennsylvania. It was period B, television productions class, my favorite class of the day. As usual I was out and about my school taping footage for a project. When I returned to the class, my teacher had put the news on. It was right after the first plane hit in New York City. The reporter was saying how this might have been just an accident. Then I saw the second plane hit. My teacher, gasped in horror as he cover his mouth and said Oh my God. I didnt know what was going on. I couldnt believe what I was seeing. The bell rang I knew that I had to go to my next period class however I just wanted to sit in front of the television and watch what was happening in the news. One of my next classes that day was EMT Class. This was a very troubling class to sit through. My teacher, a registered EMT, wanted to leave and go up to New York to help. I learned a great lesson that day in class. We were learning how to survey a scene. If the scene is not safe one should not proceed into the area. Sometimes rules like this are broken. I believe if I were in New York I would have wanted to go in the World Trade Center to help evacuate people. I think everyone in my class felt the same way.
