NMAH Story: Story
I was flying that morning on a 757 from DFW to BOS and was in the cockpit while we were over Cleveland when we got word that UA 93 had been hijacked and we could hear the transmittance over the radio. Our aircraft had to take some evasive maneuvers to stay out of its way and the last time we saw the United aircraft it was heading south. At the same time we were diverted to Canton/Akron, Ohio. We spent 3 days in a hotel in Canton. We felt very lucky to be in a place that felt so small and safe. We later ferried the a/c to EWR and saw the smoldering remains of the WTC from the air. Words cannot describe our feelings during that time. After 2 days in Newark, the Capt., F.O. and I were able to rent a car and drive home to Texas. The experiences of the second week in September are still surreal and I imagine they always will be.
