NMAH Story: Story
I am a social worker and on that day, I was working at the nursing home I was employed at during that time. I remember our dietary manager calling us to the main room where the TV was showing the first tower on fire and we weren't really sure what had happened and we were on a station that was brodcasting the view of the first, when the second plane hit. I remember all of us crying and gasping when we saw that. My husband is a Corpman in the US Navy based at Camp Lejeune, NC and I was frantically calling him at work to see if he knew anything. He told me the sirens had gone off on base and they were all on alert but nothing was happening quite yet. All the administrative people eventually gathered in the main room and watching tv until something came up at work. As soon as we finished a task, we were back in the room. We were glued there all day. I remember crying and begging the Lord to save those people and watch over our military. It was the saddest day I've ever experienced.
NMAH Story: Life Changed
Since my husband is active duty in the Navy, we were constantly hearing rumors about people being sent overseas. We are still hearing little rumors as of this day and so we're always on alert and always ready for something to happen.
NMAH Story: Remembered
The people who lost their lives, their families and espically the way America came together after the attacks. I think we should never let this tragedy get far from our hearts. This is the biggest thing to happen to my generation since Operation Desert Storm and we are responsible for making sure nobody forgets.
NMAH Story: Flag
We flew our flag for a month after and then we flew it on all the holidays since. I feel more honor in being an American and am proud to say it. Until something happens like this, you don't appreciate your freedom and you don't understand what really happened in all those wars we fought so many years ago. This is our time to remember those lost and then fight for what is right
