NMAH Story: Story

I remember calling out to my husband to "hurry quick, come here! A plane flew into the Trade Center tower." He came into the living room not knowing what I was talking about. We sat and watched smoke, just tons of smoke. And fragments of papers floating through the air not having any idea of what was happening. As the morning went on, I felt scared and confused. I kept thinking that this just had to be a freak accident. But it wasn't. I've never before felt so helpless and small. Nothing that I had to think about or worry about that day seemed to matter anymore. Everything else seemed so insignificant at the moment. The people that lost loved ones, family and friends - not to mention the Police Officers, Firefighters and volunteeers that put their lives on the line to save total strangers are the most heroic people. I can't even begin to imagine what it would be like to have been one of the wives that received phone calls and messages from their husbands. I admire them for being able to go on with their lives and taking care of their families. I don't know if I would be strong enough myself to do it. My thoughts go out to everyone that lost loved ones, family members and friends as well as the Police Officers and Firefighters ~ You are truly admired.
