September 11 Email: Body

Scared, but OK. My office is on the block right across from the back yard of the White House. I can see the smoke pouring out of the Pentagon from my window, military jets have flown over. Jerry is at home, six blocks from the Capitol. Needless to say, we feel vulnerable. The streets are clogged, so there would be no sense in leaving. Plus... this is the Red Cross. I'm sure I'll be needed for something. Wish us luck. You are a good friend and I am very touched that you thought of me! Love, Maura
