leaving ny now. air quality is bad (the same
electrical-fire type smell everywhere, even up here
now away from the trade center, in your clothes, your
hair, talk of asbestos and lead and pcb's) and the
mood is worse -- people are just falling apart around
you. top-of-their-lungs screaming fits in bars,
streetcorner vigils everywhere, walking along in front
of you and they just stop, take a seat on the curb and
start weeping. business guy in tie putting on his
game face passes me mumbling out loud to himself.
friends here from europe pulling their hair out
because they're convinced our cowboy president will go
nuclear. oh yeah and sirens 24 hours a day since
tuesday.
i'm actually pretty level headed but there's a sense
of nothing really that can be done, so might as well
leave in the idea of preserving one's own sanity.
