Attachment 1:
to the united states department of justice:
it is a sad reflection on our government and our nation when the partner of a victim of the world trade center tragedy cannot recieve compensation because they
are of the same sex. these are people that shared love, lives, and memories with someone who has been killed, and because they happen to identify as a sexual
minority, they are denied compensation available to others. unfortunately, this federal decision has caused much controversy within the queer-identified community
collective, because immigrants (incuding those not legally recognized as such) are recieving benefits when gay citizens are not. The federal decision to deny this
compensation to the queer community has spurred not only anger and fear, but has also brought up ethnocentric ideations which spread more bitterness into our
nation's rapidly crumbling web of humanity. all this prejudice, when what we need most in this time are the emotional tools necessary to propogate healing and
growth. i condemn the intolerance of the united states department of justice. you have made a decision that blocks a passage to growth, and have hurt so many of
us still suffering and in grief. wake up, love this, and live short, sweet existence for what it is. thank you.
