9/11 fund

Dear Sir/Madam:

As a gay man, I am saddened and appalled at the level of prejudice,
ignorance and lack of compassion that continues to fester at all level of
our society against all minority groups. As a member of what has been called
"the invisible minority", how ironic it is for my partner of 8 years and
myself that we donated cash to the 9/11 relief fund the night the Concert
For America was broadcast on network TV. Little did we know that although
the greatest part of the nation's donations have been raised from private
individuals, our FEDERAL government has taken it upon itself to "administer"
the distribution of said funds to the "appropriate" parties, namely the
victims' families. Though the lives of many gay and lesbian lives were lost
as a result of the attacks, and that many of those involved in rescue and
charity efforts are from the GLBT communities across the USA, we are not
evidently entitled as life partners to receive any monies or relief. I
personally did not lose a loved one in the attacks, but my grief is extended
nonetheless to ALL those who were affected, both gay and straight. WHEN will
our nation wake up and see that no matter our orientation, our skin color,
or our faith, we are all one and the same AMERICANS at heart.

IT IS our nation's leaders' responsibility to take charge and set the right
examples for future generations, and stop hiding behind the righteousness of
conservatism and bigotry!

Sincerely
