9/11 Gay Discrimination
I do not understand the remarks recently made by your representative to Tim
Russert. In clarifying that you must abide by the States' laws you have
provided a contradiction to your own decision to provide compensation to
illegal aliens. Do State laws permit this? It is explicit that they
recognize illegal aliens in terms of other services, etc. I believe it is
only right that we provide assistance to illegal aliens and I think the INS
has been quite generous in taking steps to ensure that those coming forward
are safeguarded from potential deportation. Nevertheless, to then turn our
back on U.S. citizens who happen to be in same-sex relationships seems
completely absurd. One of the heroes,
, was gay and eulogized
by Senator McCain. One of the
on the first flight to crash into the
World Trade Center was gay. The
who rushed to the scene and died
. Countless other lost their lives, lost their
lives or their loved ones. To use an argument that you open the government
up to lawsuits from different states is disengenious and plain wrong. The
process has been undermined by so many financial determinations already that
this is one more slap in the face to a last remaining group of victims.
