September 11 Victim Compensation Fund

To:
Kenneth L. Zwick, Director
Office of Management Programs, Civil Division
U.S. Department of Justice

Dear Mr. Zwick,

Having attended the memorial service of a friend who was a firefighter lost in the World Trade Center tragedy I have witnessed first hand the
heart-wrenching grief caused by that day's events. That level of shock and sadness is only compounded by fear of loss of financial security, further undermining whatever ability to successfully repair their lives remains for the loved ones left behind. That security is owed by all of us to all of those remaining victims, whether bonded to one lost through recognized legal joining or through the commitment proven by time and life history with a lost loved one.

I urge you to include anyone who has such a relationship with one of the lost victims of the September 11th, 2001 tragedy to be eligible to receive compensation, whether through a recognized legal bond, child/parent relationship or life commitment. The vulnerability to grief, financial tragedy, shock and devestation related to such a loss is not limited by legalities. Being a united people, it is our duty to treat any of our fellow citizens with the same respect, and benefits.

Thank you for your time and tremendous efforts.
