Re: September 11 Victims' Compensation Fund
Dear Senator Clinton:
I am writing you because I am greatly disturbed by your proposed changes to the September 11
Victims' Compensation Fund Rules and your recent press conference with unfortunate victims of
September 11.
With all due respect, you and those victims who are complaining about the amount of Federal
benefits are forgetting something very fundamental-the purpose of this Fund is not to create yet
another class of millionaires or to "get rich." Every victim should be grateful beyond measure the
government is paying them anything at all. This is unprecedented in American history; it has never
been done or even proposed before, even after other great tragedies too numerous to mention.
The taxpayers of America owe the victims of September 11 nothing. Indeed, once again, Americans
have already showed their generosity in the huge, unprecedented, charitable giving to this point. All
the victims of September 11th already stand to benefit from monies donated to the Red Cross, th e
United Way and many other charities; there may also be private insurance policies involved as well
as social security.
For any victim to complain that proposed government payments are not enough is disgusting. Your
support of such indefensible whining and self-pity is disgraceful.
Very truly yours,
Individual Comment
