911DA Story: Story

I was sitting in my car in front of my OB/GYN office when I first heard. Earlier I had been lazing around the house, 8 months pregnant. I hadn't turned on the TV or the radio that day. It was a little after 11 am when I first heard. I had just turned on the radio in my car. I was listening to Dan Rather reporting on the tragedy that had just unfolded. Just then, my cell phone rang. It was my mother's best friend. " YOur mother has been trying to reach you for hours! Are you ok? Where are you?" My cell hadn't received any calls because the lines were tied up. My mom lives in Seattle. She was worried because I live very near NSA and she thought that it may be another target. " I'm ok, I'll call her." I called my mother and we cried.
I prayed that this was the last of the destruction and that everyone would be ok. " Please God, be with those people, comfort them and keep them safe." At that point I hadn't realized the utter destruction that had been caused. Today, my heart is still heavy at thoughts of those who perished and those who live to tell the story of what happened that day.
I did not know anyone who died on September 11, 2001. But they are in my heart everyday. I cry every time I hear Lee Greenwood's "God Bless the USA". It means so much to me as an American to be part of this great country. God Bless us all, I am proud to be an American, you will be remembered.
