911DA Story: Story
My first thought when the towers fell was for the fire personnel and the police personnel. As the daughter and sister of policemen and the sister of a volunteer fireman, I recognized the danger when they first entered the first tower. When the towers fell, I knew that lives would be lost. All that died that day were heroes. All that survived that day are heroes.
My heart stopped that day and my first thought was to call all of my family and make sure that everyone was okay even though we were all far removed from the sites of terrorism. I was driving to an interview for a new job when the first plane hit and I heard it on the radio. When the second plane hit I realized that the world had just changed.
I did lose some friends from college but was unaffected in my close personal life. What has changed has been my spiritual life. I have faced three series of treatments for leukemia since 1998 but nothing had made me face my own mortality as much as the terrorist attacks on America.
