911DA Story: Story

8 AM CST September 11, 2001 ... I had just gotten up and was getting ready for an English class at UW-Parkside. My grandfather was in the living room watching the morning news on MSNBC. "An airplane has just crashed into the North tower of the WTC"," reported the newswoman. I threw on some clothes and raced into the living room only to catch, "Another airplane has just slammed into the south tower of the WTC" several minutes later. From this moment onward, I was glued to the unfolding news of the terrorist attacks.

I had an AM news radio station on as I was driving northward on I-94. I reached the Waukegan toll plaza when I heard the newsman announce that the FAA was grounding all flights. I had a lot going through my mind. My stomach knotted when I heard about the other 2 airplanes after class let out.

That day is still fresh in my mind... I doubt I'll ever forget where I was and what I was doing when the terrorist attacks began.
