911DA Story: Story
My husband, George, and I had flown out to Las Vegas for a week's vacation on the Sunday before September 11. We had just woke up and turned on the TV when the announcement was made that a plane had hit the World Trade Center. Neither of us could believe what we were hearing and seeing on the screen. When the 2nd plane hit, I thought war had been declared on the USA. My thoughts turned to my family at home and I feared that I would enver see them again to be able to tell them one last time that I loved them.
We were glued to the TV that morning but when we finally went to eat breakfast, we noted how the casinos were still going full force as if nothing had happened. It really made me sad to think that this terrible disaster meant so little to some people. As the week wore on and all transportation was halted, we were again concerned that we would not get home. Fortunately, by Sunday we were able to get our flight out and get home to family and friends. I don't think Louisville, Kentucky had ever looked so good to either of us before. I know what happened has made me take more time to give thanks for our Country and our liberties and freedom.
This was certainly a wake up call for everyone. I grieve for the families who had loved ones to perish on that fateful day.
