911DA Story: Story
I am an elementary school guidance counselor. I was briefly sitting at my desk the morning of September 11 when a phone call came through for me from one of the parents I had been working with quite a bit in helping her children. She asked, "Did you hear that the World Trade Towers collapsed? I just saw it on TV." I hadn't and was shocked. In fact I didn't believe her. But I went to a TV and saw it myself.
This was a very unusual way for me to hear news, because normally I would hear any kind of national news when I got home or maybe from someone stopping by the school who had heard it on their car radio. Later I discovered that some other faculty members'spouses had called to tell them. This particular parent had called the school and gone through a secretary to tell me. I felt connected to her immediately and appreciated her concern for me.
