911DA Story: Story
The morning of September 11, 2001, I was still asleep when the planes hit the World Trade Center in New York. My husband, a firefighter returning home from his shift, woke me with the terrible news that a plane had crashed into one of the buildings. Immediately, we went to our family room where we sat together watching the smoke coming from the towers. We then learned that a second plane had flown into the second tower. As the events unfolded, I remember praying... praying for the souls of those who were losing their lives, for their families, and for the rescue workers running in to save them. We watched together, as other Americans did, as the first tower crumbled to the ground. I asked him "What's happening"? And then we cried. I put my arms around my husband knowing that there were wives of the FDNY firefighters that would never again be able to hug their husbands. My heart goes out to each and every one.
God bless America. God bless the heroes of September 11.
