911DA Story: Story
It was 7:47am cdt when the first plane hit the North World Trade Tower. At that time, I was on my way to work, unaware that anything out of the ordinary was happening. The moment I walked in the door at work, I was told the horrible news: a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. Within a couple of minutes, someone had turned on the television and we were all watching in horror and disbelief, when another plane crashed into the second Trade Tower.
When we saw the news about a third airplane hitting the Pentagon and then a fourth going down in Pennsylvania, my boss allowed us to leave, so we could spend the rest of the day with our families. None of us knew if it would be our last day on earth, as well, so we wanted to spend what precious time we thought we had with our families.
When my husband and I arrived home with our children early that afternoon, we put them down for a nap so they wouldn't have to see the devastation and destruction on tv. My husband kept speculating that President Bush would probably land at Offutt Air Base, only a couple of miles away from our house. Only a couple of minutes after he landed, we heard on the television that President Bush did indeed land at Offutt Air Base. It was kind of neat to know that he was that close to our house, yet really scary to think that he may be the next target of the terrorist attack! I thank God every day that we weren't harmed in any way, and I pray for all the victims and families of the horrible acts inflicted on our great country!
