911DA Story: Story
My granddaughter and I were preparing to leave Mexico after a wonderful week of fishing and fun. We were waiting to cross into the US in a huge line at the border. Suddenly, a disk jockey announced a plane had hit the World Trade Center. After that, it went from bad to worse and the man could hardly relate the news without choking up. There we were, citizens of two nations, sitting in shocked silence at the Mexican border. People were so kind and compassionate. After being searched and questioned, we were allowed to pass into California. It felt wonderful for my granddaughter and I to be back in our country. Even though we were going through a major tragedy,we wanted to be where we belonged and where we could help. No matter what, there is no place like America.
