The story about Al-Jazeera offices being bombed in Kabul in today's WSJ
reminds one of the "accidental" bombing of the Chinese embassy in Belgrade
in 1999.  That "accident" just so happened to hit exactly where the embassy
newspeople were located.

This reminds one of the lie told Saudi Arabia that Iraqi troops were
massing on the border of Saudi the day after the invasion of renegade Iraqi
province Kuwait.  This lie enabled the US to send in troops.

A woman journalist was going to print with a story about that big lie and
went to the pentagon seeking photos to disprove her story.  Naturally, she
was refused.  Years later commercial satellites confirmed that indeed there
were no troop formations on the Iraqi border on that date, the day after
the invasion of Kuwait.

An article last month in WSJ said the US has bought all rights to
commercial satellite photos of Afghanistan. The government learned its
lesson.  So much for  journalism and a free press.........
